Assistant Hatchery Manager

Select Genetics is seeking a full-time Assistant Hatchery Manager for our facility located in Harrisonburg, VA. Select Genetics is the leading supplier of quality turkey poults, with a mission to deliver the highest quality poult at the greatest value to integrated food marketing companies, our commercial production farms, and independent turkey growers.

The Opportunity:

This role will be responsible for supporting hatchery operations while optimizing quality output through the efficient supervision of employees and processes in the overall production and delivery of day old poults under the direction of the Hatchery Manager.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Schedules and helps direct and coordinate hatchery activities such as hatching of eggs, sorting, vaccinating and shipping of poults, and maintenance of facilities;
  • Supports and enforces hatchery policies and practices that ensure attainment of goals;
  • Responsible for providing excellent customer service with delivery of consistent high quality poults to customers;
  • Carries out all directives in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws, including scheduling, assigning and directing work;
  • Organizes and administers monthly and annual safety trainings;
  • Accurately utilizes M-tech database system to record and receive egg shipments as well as create set sheets for Hatchery egg sets;
  • Communicates shipping details to drivers and enters shipping tickets and Gap Sheets when needed;
  • Works with Hatchery Manager to analyze QC records and review and address customer feedback.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Past experience supervising employees with a high level of energy and positive influence to promote an engaged team.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and organizational skills, and gives attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills and basic accounting knowledge preferred and ability to work under time constraints.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills; both written and verbal in English.
  • Ability to compose and/or distribute memos to Hatchery employees at the directive of the Hatchery Manager.
  • Demonstrates confidence utilizing Microsoft Office software programs and quickly learning company specific computer software/database.
  • An Associate level degree is ideal, however, a solid history of work experience and success leading an engaged team is encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working in an agricultural industry and/or live production environment is highly preferred.
  • Any experience with HVAC Systems, boiler equipment, or other mechanical systems is preferred but not required.
  • Given the responsibilities within this production environment, the ideal candidate will reside in or near Harrisonburg, VA.
  • A valid state driver’s license is required.
  • Availability to work extended workdays during the week and some weekends.

About the Opportunity:

Select Genetics, is searching for a strong individual to join our team. In association with Aviagen Turkeys, Select Genetics is the nation’s leader in turkey breeding and hatching.

We are looking for a full-time Staff Veterinarian to join our turkey breeder operations in Aurora, MO, with additional coverage in IA and IL.  Our operations have a well-established, operational structure for a seasoned Veterinarian to easily transition to, or a new graduate will find advantageous and supportive.  This opportunity will require you to provide strong technical support to the turkey breeder and hatchery operations, in addition to our poult customers, from our multiple locations.  You will be working within a large, multi-location team of production and management personnel, other Veterinarians and Specialists in our industry.  This position requires a willingness to travel 25% of the time.

You will be responsible for helping adjust and maintain strong preventative health and biosecurity programs, through rational surveillance and monitoring protocols, as well as other audit instruments.  You will also be expected to design, participate and oversee various applied research trials in production and in controlled research settings.

The Ideal Candidate must have:

A successful candidate will come with a positive attitude, strong problem-solving skills, be self-motivated, have strong decision making, interpersonal, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Previous experience in poultry production or related animal production field would be preferred but is not required.  You will be expected to have a DVM degree from an AVMA accredited college and be eligible for licensure in multiple states.

Select Genetics is seeking a Full-Time Transportation Manager to ensure that shipments into or out of our Osceola division are handled efficiently, safely, and within budget constraints. You will coordinate with outside companies that provide freight services and also ensure that delivery issues are researched and corrected.
